Overview

Bitcoin Clashic (also known as BCHC or BCL) is the minority chain that continued mining under the original Bitcoin Cash consensus rules after Bitcoin Cash performed its first major protocol upgrade in November 2017.

On 13 November 2017, at approximately block height 504,031 / 504,032, the majority of the Bitcoin Cash network activated a new Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm (DAA). A small group of nodes and miners refused the new rules and kept producing blocks under the previous ruleset. That minority chain became known as Bitcoin Clashic.

The name is a playful combination of “Classic” and “Clash,” reflecting both the desire to preserve the original Bitcoin Cash rules and the contentious nature of the split.

Later, a portion of the Clashic community performed another upgrade (~block 576,698) that became Bitcoin Core (BTCC).

Why the Split Happened

The original Bitcoin Cash emergency difficulty adjustment (EDA) algorithm, used after the August 2017 fork from Bitcoin, produced highly unstable block times. In periods of low hashrate, blocks could take hours; when hashrate returned, blocks could come every few seconds.

In November 2017 the Bitcoin Cash community activated a new, more stable difficulty adjustment algorithm. Most of the network upgraded. A minority argued that the change abandoned the rules under which Bitcoin Cash had originally forked from Bitcoin and therefore refused to follow the upgrade. Their chain retained the older rules and took the name Bitcoin Clashic.

Later History

Bitcoin Clashic never attracted significant hashrate or exchange support compared with Bitcoin Cash. Over the following months the project remained a small minority chain.

In mid-2018 a further upgrade of the Clashic codebase produced the project that branded itself Bitcoin Core (BTCC) (unrelated to the Bitcoin Core software). That later project introduced 1-minute blocks and other changes and eventually moved toward a rebrand as Title Network.

Because of the multi-step history, simply holding BCH at the November 2017 fork did not automatically give users Clashic (or later BTCC) unless they remained on the minority chain.

Historical Significance

Bitcoin Clashic is a useful illustration of how even “successful” hard forks can immediately produce further minority chains when part of the community rejects a subsequent upgrade. It sits in the middle of the 2017–2018 cascade of Bitcoin-named forks and is the direct predecessor of the deliberately provocatively named Bitcoin Core (BTCC) token.

Note: Block height 504,032 is the most commonly cited split point. Exact first divergent block numbers can vary slightly depending on the source and how nodes counted the activation. Always verify current chain state independently if interacting with any remaining infrastructure.
